ACLU'S Headquarters Art Collection

Phantom Designs recently unveiled an ambitious project at the ACLU's New York office, introducing more than 70 artworks to the organization's headquarters. This curated collection is not merely an enhancement of office aesthetics; it reflects the ACLU's mission, embodies the spirit of the staff, and honors the communities they serve.

This collection features four of my pieces: "Keep Flying," "The Invitation," "Little Island," and "The Wait." Each giclée print, measuring 20" x 24", is meticulously signed and titled, offering a glimpse into the depth and diversity of the collection. Imagine the potential of these artworks to serve as a backdrop to documentaries or interviews filmed at the ACLU offices. Walking into the conference rooms, and being greeted by these visuals, one can feel the powerful stories they tell.

We worked with the ACLU and many artists for months to create a collection that speaks to the social justice themes embodied by the more than 100 year-old institution.

Today At Apple - Art Lab: Reimagine Your World with Dilianny Espinoza

Free sessions that challenge you to learn and express your creativity, in convenient locations around the world.

Since its launch in all stores in 2017, Apple is bringing an original initiative called Today At Apple. This is a program created to connect with other people, discover a new passion, learn some new skills, and show how technology and art go hand in hand.

Focusing on topics like photography, video, music, art and design, Today at Apple is also a platform for local talents, where creators can share their experiences and insights. On October 2, 2019, I had an incredible opportunity to collaborate with Apple and The Big Draw, participating in one of these sessions at the Apple Store in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

My first workshop during Hispanic Heritage Month was an absolute delight! Imagine this: me, not a native English speaker, leading a spirited 90-minute session. It was a bit like a dance, carefully choosing words and sidestepping any language hiccups. But hey, isn't that the spice of life?

Collaborating with Apple, now that's a story! They're not just a big name; they're the epitome of professionalism. When they called me up for 'Today At Apple', I felt a mix of excitement and nerves. But, as they say, life's all about grabbing those chances, even if you're still tying your shoelaces while running!

The workshop was a whirlwind of three fun-filled parts. First, we had the 'Inspiration Station', where I chatted about everything from my art style and eureka moments to my creative process. I even shared some top-secret tips and tools!

Next up, we dove into the digital world with Procreate. It was like cooking together; I was showing everyone how to whip up one of my artworks, step-by-step, adding a pinch of personal advice along the way.

And the grand finale? A hands-on fiesta with iPads and Apple Pencils! Everyone got down to business, trying out the techniques I shared. We wrapped up with a mini-exhibition of everyone's work. It was like a mini art gala!

Reflecting on it, these workshops are more than just learning; they're about connecting, unleashing creativity, and daring to jump into new experiences. And let me tell you, it's totally worth the leap!

Thank you to all the people who attended. I loved seeing your interest on my work. I considered it a moment of mutual learning.

SHEIN x Artist Campaign

Recently, I got a thrilling nod from SHEIN to join their "SHEIN x Artist" campaign, a fresh initiative breathing life into the fashion scene by spotlighting independent artists. SHEIN X isn't just a campaign; it's a movement. With the mantra "Empowering Creativity," SHEIN aims to shake up the fashion industry, making it more accessible and sustainable for the next generation of creatives.

This program is a game-changer, leveraging on-demand manufacturing and a vast fabric library to minimize waste and boost innovation. It's a win-win: artists get to showcase their work on a global stage, and the fashion industry gets a much-needed breath of fresh air.

What excites me most about SHEIN X is its promise of connecting emerging talents with a worldwide audience.

“This project was born to show consumers that if it is possible to find sustainable design products, creativity and art are part of our DNA. Many generations have seen a market full of unsustainable products, and the most ecological offer had only raw materials. At Caraibi, we have proposed to give life to each material obtained from nature to adapt it to quality and contemporary taste.”

LinkNYC Collaboration

Considered one of the most pedestrian-friendly cities of the world, and number one in the United States, New York City is also known for promoting art and culture around its corners, making the citizens and visitors more pleasant to explore the streets on foot.

In 2017, LinkNYC and the New York City Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT) added #ArtOnLink to their list of cultural programs. This new proposal consists of a collaboration with local artists to allow them to launch their works of art in more than 1,700 active links in the five boroughs.

In case you wonder what “Link” is, if you live in New York City, you have probably seen their screens and even used them, but you didn’t know their name yet.

“LinkNYC is a first-of-its-kind communications network that will replace over 7,500 pay phones across the five boroughs with new structures called Links. Each Link provides superfast, free public Wi-Fi, phone calls, device charging and a tablet for access to city services, maps and directions.”

—LinkNYC Official

When I started to see these art-filled screens while walking in the city, I thought it was amazing how you could feel like you're in a kind of "Walking Gallery" on your way, everywhere. As an artist, I saw it as an excellent opportunity to exhibit my work. I remember wondering what the requirements were to participate.

After a while, inspired by what I see in my daily life in the city, I create the series "New Yorker Fiction". I saw so many different people and places every day that caught my attention, that I decided to start drawing them to give them a story and a touch of my surreal eye. .

Once I began to share my content of New York on social media, the first thing that came up to my head was to appear in #ArtOnLink, so I started using the hashtag and tagging their account (@linknycofficial) in my Instagram posts. A few weeks later, one of the LinkNYC team members invites me to participate in the program. So, if you are an artist creating content related to NYC and you are wondering how to be part of #ArtOnLink, this is one way, also, you can submit an application through their website here.

Instagram Highlight Covers & Super Models

When we talk about Instagram, we talk about 100% visual content, so every detail counts. It is essential to use any resource that can grab the audience's attention.

Instagram stories have become an inexhaustible source of engagement, an additional way to reach and interact with your followers. As we already know, many times a book is judged by the cover, well, the same applies to the highlights. Using designs that fit your own personal style and aesthetic, you can increase views on your stories and level up the first impression of your brand.

Pay attention to celebrities, influencers, and artists' profiles; you will find that a significant majority have their highlight covers custom made. That's where my work with these talented supermodels came in: Emily Didonato, Brooks Nader, and Sofia Resing. These enterprising women, in search of a step up on their Instagram accounts, commissioned me to add that custom touch to their covers.

Using my illustration style, I create descriptive type designs. The idea is to use Icons that make it easier for the public to understand each of the highlights' content, of course, always keeping it cohesive. This helps to give a more professional and striking look to your profile.

Using a mixture of nature, pop culture and surrealism Dilianny creates beautiful medium format prints. These two pieces capture female figures dreaming, looking away, lost on lily pads...

Independent.jpg

Independent

-The road has been difficult, but look how far you have come, determined woman. Keep it up, she told herself.

Prejudices.jpg

Prejudices

-Enough! It's a long list of prejudices for our short existence. People heard her exclaim.

The two pieces selected to represent me in the exhibition are part of my series of collages. Using digital media, I seek to find harmony in the mix of different photographs until they merge and create a new one. In both cases, the concept aimed the independence that the woman of today has achieved, in how we have changed our way of thinking about how it was decades ago.

I made "Independent" to commemorate the international women's day. Its main element is the woman, composed of a stone statue to represent how strong we have become, and the lower part because it has not been necessary to set behind our femininity. At the same time, in the background, you can see a fairly rough path, as has been the history of the struggle for gender equality. The glass sky is the representation of hope at the beginning of the fight, women looked for the minimum entrance, and since so many doors were closed, we took advantage of even a small window. The mixture of cool colors in top and earth colors in the bottom gives the final balance to the piece.

With respect to the piece "Prejudices", the idea arose that the woman sitting on the leaves of water lilies floating in the universe represents how small we are in the universe, the shortness of our permanence in it, and there is no time for unnecessary prejudices of society. In this case, the Playboy in his hands, I refer to a specific one: sex is something taboo for the woman of the past, but the woman of the present is free to put aside prejudices.
